SUMMER is a publication to accompany and document an exhibition of contemporary British painting by twenty-four artists at Frestonian Gallery, London. The exhibition’s title is both a nod to the tradition of collective summer shows in London’s contemporary art scene and a broad theme around which the participating artists were invited to make or contribute works. The exhibition features paintings and works on paper by some of the exceptional generation of painters who are defining painting in Britain and on the world stage today, many of whom have featured in or had books published by Anomie.

The resulting collection of paintings and works on paper is delightfully eclectic and idiosyncratic, from the quintessential English country garden depicted by Tim Braden to the holiday park ice cream shop presented by Caroline Walker, the lush tropical vegetation of Mauritius represented by Cara Nahaul to the abandoned island hotel discovered by Nick Goss while holidaying in Italy.

Curated by Matt Price, Publisher at Anomie Publishing, in collaboration with Rollo Campbell and Matt Incledon, Directors of Frestonian Gallery, the exhibition runs from 19 June to 9 August 2025.
